2.3.12 Biological Weapons Convention 1972

There have since been moves to prohibit the possession of bacteriological weapons, but not the possession or manufacture of chemical weapons. The 1972 Convention⁵ Preamble also places the prohibition in the context of "achieving effective progress towards general and complete disarmament, including the prohibition and elimination of all types of weapons of mass destruction".
