This book was originally published in 1989 by the Alva and Gunnar Myrdal Foundation in conjunction with Swedish Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms (ISBN 91-87396-09-2).
The original edition was not printed in large numbers, so soon it became a scarce item. Many lawyers, scholars and others have found it to be a very useful compact summary of the legal issues related to nuclear weapons. Therefore it has been decided to re-issue the whole text, in this web format.

The original print edition has a date of July 1989. There were some late corrections that did not make the print version. Re-issue of the book provides an opportunity to incorporate those minor changes and corrections. Therefore this edition represents the manuscript as of September 1989.
POSTSCRIPT: The approach taken in this book formed part of the basis, directly or indirectly, of the Advisory Opinion of the World Court in 1996.
